The Stonyhill Primitive Ego Theory of Human Social and Spiritual Development© (PET) was developed to offer not only a simple coherent theory for the development and evolution of human consciousness, but to also provide the psychological tools and insights needed so-as-to enable the infusion of "intentionality" in the future growth of our species consciousness.
PET is a developmental theory of the human ego that could be offered in our public school systems to teach the skills and insights required for growth in psychological intelligence (PQ©) and the intentional maturation of our species consciousness, or to those interested in the authentic spiritual growth that comes through growth in one's self-awareness.

PERSONAL THOUGHTS
In January, I will use several issues of the Stonyhill Newsletter to outline some of the more critical problems that face us as a species, and then illustrate how primitive ego thinking has helped to create each of these problems. I will also include discussion on some of the changes I believe will be needed to transform our consciousness; changes in consciousness that we will need to creatively solve the problems our primitive ego consciousness has created for us.
As I pointed out in the above article, we are what we think about and what we choose to manifest in the world. But simply having a tool like Primitive Ego Theory to understand the changes we need to make is only the first step. Primitive Ego Theory is capable of giving us some of the important skills and insights needed to manifest a more enlightened consciousness, but the ultimate goal for all of us needs to include the creation of an enlightened global community.
In other words, PET is a very useful cognitive tool, but it has no real power to transform the world until each of us invests the insights and concepts of PET into our own lives; into our own identity. Only then will there be sufficient integrity between what we know to be true and how we actually live our lives. Only then will PET be capable of providing the framework needed for a new and enlightened cultural structure capable of transforming the world we live in.
In upcoming issues of the Newsletter I will focus on how we might create a truly enlightened global community combining Primitive Ego Theory and some of the powerful community building concepts developed by Scott Peck in the 1990's.
I would like to leave you with a Christmas gift; one that I think you will enjoy and find very enlightening as we attempt to balance the stresses inherent in our Holiday shopping while struggling financially with the reality of recession. I would encourage all of you to take a moment and go to http://www.storyofstuff.com/ to view a very powerful and entertaining website that effectively debunks our need for "stuff" and the dangerous myth called "unlimited economic expansion".
So take the time to check out the website I listed above….you will be glad you did. It will provide helpful insight into the dangers inherent in this commonly accepted myth.
Blessings for a holiday season filled with love and compassion. See you in the New Year.

3) SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
We are about to enter a new year. Take the time in 2009 to continue educating yourself about the changes that need to be made in the way you live your life so as to bring your beliefs and your actions into sync. Every time you find yourself behaving in ways that are inconsistent with what you know to be truth, simply pay attention. Eventually, as I have said many times in this Newsletter, over time the old ways will begin to make less and less sense. Change will come effortlessly for you.
When you begin to manifest more compassionate behaviors that reflect what you know to be true, those around you will eventually begin to manifest more compassionate behaviors. This is how an enlightened community will begin to emerge. We cannot tell the world the changes it needs to make without creating criticism and judgment. We can only show them through the forms of love and compassion that we model for them as we work to mature our own consciousness and achieve our own authenticity. Enlightenment is a process, not a goal.
GOALS OF THE STONYHILL NEWSLETTER
We live in a world filled with conflict and violence. Almost everyone agrees that something has to change. There is an urgent need to develop a more compassionate global spirituality.
At Stonyhill, we believe it makes no sense to profess the values and morality of peace and compassion while continuing to manifest the primitive ego's paradigm of vertical power called survival of the fittest; a paradigm of power, control, and violence.
We must learn how the unconscious judgments of the primitive ego bring the seeds of conflict, and a sense of "otherness" into the world. If our personal goal is to do no harm to others or the world, then our thinking must consciously evolve and become more conscious or self-aware.
We will become what we think about and authentic spiritual growth is achieved only when we grow in self-awareness.
Traditional mainline religions are based on primitive pre-modern and violent tribal metaphors written during a time when our human consciousness was still very primitive. Until our mainline religions remove the violence contained in their scriptures and come to understand that most of the wisdom in their scriptures is metaphoric and should not be interpreted literally, they will be unable to offer the moral and ethical framework needed to create effective global solutions to the challenges facing us in the 21st century.
We will evolve as humans only as we become more self-aware and intentionally increase our ability to love unconditionally. A compassionate global spirituality is no longer just an interesting philosophic idea; the future of the human species may very well depend upon our ability to create it. The danger that we could destroy ourselves as a species has never been greater. The creation of a compassionate global community is the most important goal of human consciousness in the 21st century.
The Stonyhill Newsletter explores the insights and spiritual practices required to achieve the authentic spiritual growth that comes from deep self-awareness, understanding the primitive ego that resides in each of us, and the intentional evolution of our species consciousness.
The Stonyhill newsletter is written each month for counselors, therapists, clergy, and individuals interested in authentic spiritual growth, intentional growth in our human consciousness, and the formation of a compassionate, non-violent global community that openly embraces radical inclusiveness and diversity.
