In The Seat of the Soul, Zukav has made an important contribution toward deepening our ability to understand spirituality growth in evolutionary language. Someone once said that until we have a language to talk about a subject, we are unable to talk about important things.
This book broadens our spiritual language and thus expands our ability to talk about soul, the non-physical energy of the universe and co-creation. We are co-creators with the Consciousness of the Universe when we create form out of the non-physical energy of the Universe with our consciousness. These are important concepts for us to understand if we are serious about the task of building compassionate communities.
This book gave me the language and insights to take a major step forward in my ability to articulate and yoke middlepath teachings at Stonyhill with currently accepted evolutionary concepts such as survival of the fittest.
I recommend this book highly and encourage you to read Conscious Evolution: Awakening Our Social Potential
by Barbara Marx Hubbard at the same time. These two books will significantly expand your understanding of the importance of intentional spiritual growth as we evolve into a more loving species. These two books capture some of the basic concepts taught at Stonyhill.

The Silence of God; Meditations on Prayer. Carse, James P.. Harper, San Francisco, 1985.
This is a wonderful book on the importance of silence and listening. Carse is a very articulate writer who has done a fine job of exploring the spiritual life and the difference between head knowledge and a knowing wisdom that comes from mystical experience. "In genuine teaching the teacher cannot say what is being taught nor can the student say what is being learned."
I rate this as one of the important seminal books that anyone serious about their spirituality should read. I found it to be very helpful in developing a deeper understanding of the importance of listening in my psychotherapy practice and my work as a spiritual director. As Carse would say, the closer we are to our silence, the closer we are to God. I highly recommend this book. |

Awareness is a book that should be everyone's bookshelf and read annually. It is a delightful collection of stories, insights and thoughts on what it means to live our lives fully in touch with reality…..to challenge the sleep-walking illusions we all carry about the world, ourselves, and our relationships with other.
Don't miss this one. It's one of the best wake up books you will ever read.
If your goal if happiness and evolving your adult consciousness, this book is a must read. It is one of the best books I have read on the concept of awakening to the reality of the real world. You will look a long time to find a better, more interesting, helpful book on the subjects of happiness and awakening.

The Road Less Traveled by Scott Peck
This is one of the classics on self-growth. It is another of the seminal books that anyone interested in personal growth and growth in self-awareness will want to read and re-read from time to time.
Like any book considered a classic, the wisdom and insights contained in this book are basic and timeless. It was written in the late seventies but did not become a best seller until the early 80's. Thumbing through the book, I am often amazed at how many of the concepts, that are an integral part of my understanding and teaching about self-growth today, came from this book thirty years ago.
This book deserves to be read and on the book shelf of anyone interested in evolving and maturing their primitive ego consciousness. The roots of many of the ideas found in self-growth literature, including the Stonyhill Nuggets, began in The Road Less Traveled. |
